With a passion for canine behavior, Lisa Moore began her long time career in competition obedience. After winning multiple national obedience titles, she didn’t stop there! In 1989 she established Top Notch Dog Training. With her talent and continued education in canine behavior she now shares her knowledge in training classes, private lessons and educational seminars designed to enhance the relationship between dogs and their families.
Recognizing the need for a home away from home for our beloved furry friends during family vacations and long days at work, Top Notch Kennels was born, custom designed and built to provide the highest quality canine care and comfort while maintaining the utmost standard of cleanliness.
Opened in 2002, with 1 location and 5 employees, we’ve grown to have multiple locations and over 30 employees, with plans to expand. Expanding our business is highly motivated by our client’s wishes and the needs of our community to offer compassionate care and education for the people and dogs of Modesto, Turlock, and surrounding communities. Top Notch Kennels offers a wide range of services including: overnight boarding, daycare for dogs, numerous training options, gentle handling grooming, and the Bow Wow Boutique.

We provide peace of mind with the idea of providing clients with a clean, well designed and comfortable place to leave their precious dogs. Our focus is on the quality of care the dogs receive while with us. We work hard to earn the trust of our clients, and provide their dogs with a fun experience, sending them back home healthy and happy.
Our goal has always been to operate as a family. We work hard to forge positive relationships with our clients as well as our co-workers. Regular staff meetings ensure communication about policies and procedures to keep the business running smoothly in order to take exceptional care of the canine guests, human clients, and employees to meet our high expectations and performance goals. Members of staff frequently attend educational seminars in all areas of the business to keep abreast of current information, research, training techniques, products, and laws.
Four Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partners are on staff offering a wide range of dog training and behavior modification options focused on scientifically proven, positive, force-free techniques, with no aversive methods used. The focus is always on the welfare of all our furry friends, fostering strong bonds between owners and their family dog, and keeping happy dogs and happy owners!
Together we advocate for gentle care and handling of dogs in all aspects, honesty with our clients, and a level of service we can all be proud of.

Philanthropy:
We support and contribute to local schools, rescue organizations and other philanthropic organizations!
All year long we collect donated items from our generous clients, such as, blankets, collars, toys, crates, etc. and at the end of the year we match everything, pound for pound, with dog food. Since we began this collection, each year we donate over 1,000 pounds of supplies and dog food to shelters and dogs in need. We truly are stronger together!
We are also proud sponsors of our community arts & entertainment for Gallo Center for the Arts and Modesto Symphony – both a valued and community treasure.
Environmental awareness:
In 2010, we proudly reduced water consumption considerably by replacing all grass at the kennel with artificial turf.
Top Notch Kennels is always open to explore new ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
Guests often tell us our kennel is so clean and smells great! The health and safety of our dogs are important to us, as well as the health and safety of our employees and kennel visitors. This is why we choose to use environmentally friendly cleaning products whenever possible.
Top Notch also believes in recycling wherever possible! Even though there is no recycling pick up in Modesto for most items, we collect and drive our recyclables to various recycling centers in town to lessen the impact on the environment, reduce landfill waste and conserve energy.
